Kuwait City: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi called on the United Nations to take immediate measures to confront the Israeli occupation's aggression and warmongering, the official IRNA news agency reported.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Aragchi, in a phone call with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday evening, urged the UN to take urgent measures to fulfill its duties in maintaining international peace and security. He highlighted the Israeli occupation's military aggression on several locations in Iran, including military headquarters, nuclear facilities, and residential buildings, which led to the deaths and injuries of senior military commanders, scientists, and civilians, including women and children.
The Iranian foreign minister labeled the attacks as a flagrant violation of Iran's sovereignty and territorial integrity, emphasizing Iran's determination to defend itself as per Article 51 of the UN Charter. He called on the UN to take a firm stance against these actions to uphold international law and peace.
Guterres expressed his regret and condemnation of the attacks on Iran, particularly the targeting of nuclear facilities during ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States. He assured that he would leverage the capabilities of the United Nations to prevent further escalation and work towards restoring security and calm in the region.
