Tehran: The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has appointed Maj-Gen. Seyyed Abdolrahim Mousavi as the new Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. Additionally, Gen. Mohammad Pakpour has been appointed as the Commander in Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to Kuwait News Agency, these appointments follow the tragic loss of the former chief of staff, Maj-Gen. Mohammad Bagheri, and the former IRGC commander, Maj-Gen. Hossein Salami. Both were martyred, along with several other military commanders and nuclear scientists, in attacks attributed to Israel on Iran early Friday. The leadership change aims to stabilize the military command structure amid heightened tensions in the region.
