Kuwait City: Minister of Information, Culture, and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi on Wednesday inaugurated the Ministry of Information's digital photo archive. This significant initiative houses nearly 3 million historical images of Kuwait, encompassing various fields and periods.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Jamal Al-Badeh, Acting Director of the Public Relations Department, stated that the launch of the digital archive is a part of the ministry's strategy focused on digital transformation and infrastructure enhancement. This effort aims to preserve and protect Kuwait's historical heritage while maintaining the integrity of the original paper photographs and film negatives.
The project commenced six months ago, involving an extensive process of sorting and digitizing old photographs, Al-Badeh explained. Approximately 600,000 images have been converted to digital format so far, with ongoing efforts to process the remaining photographs.
The archive's collection includes images dating back to 1958. To facilitate efficient image searches, a catalog has been developed, ensuring proper storage and the creation of backup copies to secure the digital assets.
