Belagavi: The 11th edition of the India-Sri Lanka joint military exercise, Mitra Shakti-2025, commenced on Monday at the Foreign Training Node in Belagavi, Karnataka. This significant military collaboration aims to enhance the interoperability and defense cooperation between the two nations.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Indian Ministry of Defense announced that the exercise, scheduled from November 10 to 23, includes a contingent of 170 Indian personnel, primarily from the Rajput Regiment, and 135 Sri Lankan personnel mainly from the Gajaba Regiment. Additionally, the exercise sees participation from 20 personnel of the Indian Air Force and 10 from the Sri Lankan Air Force.
The primary objective of Mitra Shakti-2025 is to rehearse the conduct of Sub Conventional Operations under Chapter VII of the UN Mandate. Both Indian and Sri Lankan forces will engage in tactical exercises such as raid, search and destroy missions, heliborne operations, and Army Martial Arts Routine. The joint military exercise will also incorporate the use of drones, counter unmanned aerial systems, and helicopters, with drills focusing on securing helipads and conducting casualty evacuations during counter-terrorist operations.
The Ministry highlighted that the collaborative efforts are aimed at achieving a higher level of interoperability among the troops, thereby reducing risks to life and property. The exercise will also serve as a platform for exchanging views and practices of joint drills, ultimately fostering stronger bilateral relations between the Indian and Sri Lankan Armies.
