India Sends Aid to Afghanistan Following Deadly Earthquake


Kabul: India on Monday expressed its condolences at the loss of lives in a devastating earthquake that hit Afghanistan and dispatched relief materials. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his sympathies through his official X account, stating he was “deeply saddened by the loss of lives due to the earthquake in Afghanistan.” He offered thoughts and prayers for the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. Modi also pledged to provide all possible humanitarian aid and relief to those affected.



According to Kuwait News Agency, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar communicated with his Afghan counterpart Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi to express condolences for the loss of lives caused by the earthquake. Jaishankar announced that India had delivered 1,000 family tents to Kabul. Additionally, the Indian Mission is in the process of moving 15 tons of food material from Kabul to Kunar. Further relief materials are scheduled to be sent from India starting the following day.



Afghan authorities earlier reported that a 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck the Nangarhar and Kunar provinces, resulting in the deaths of at least 812 people and injuring 2,800 others.
