New delhi: India on Thursday expressed support to Afghanistan as the latter's border tension with Pakistan escalated. Indian Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated in a press briefing that India remains fully committed to the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of Afghanistan. "Pakistan thinks they can keep doing cross-border terrorism without being punished. We are committed to the sovereignty of Afghanistan," Jaiswal said.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Indian statement came as peace talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan in Turkey this week failed. Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif threatened a possible military attack inside Afghanistan and accused the Taliban regime of waging a proxy war against Pakistan on behalf of India.
