India, Pakistan Agree to Immediate Ceasefire After U.S. Mediation

ISLAMABAD: In a significant development, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, announced on Saturday that Pakistan and India have reached an agreement to cease hostilities with immediate effect.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Dar addressed the media, confirming the ceasefire agreement, stating, "Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity." This announcement followed U.S. President Donald Trump's declaration that a ceasefire was achieved after extensive talks mediated by the United States between the two neighboring countries.

Earlier in the day, tensions had escalated as Pakistan conducted retaliatory air strikes targeting key Indian military installations. The operation, named "Bunyan-un-Marsoos," was described as a "befitting response" to Indian forces' attempts to target three Pakistan Air Force (PAF) bases using air-to-surface missiles. The ceasefire agreement, therefore, marks a critical step towards de-escalating the conflict between the two nations.
