New Delhi: India announced on Tuesday that it has renewed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Indonesia on maritime safety and security cooperation. Indian Ministry of Defense stated that the Indian Coast Guard and the Indonesia Coast Guard renewed their Memorandum of Understanding on Maritime Safety and Security Cooperation for another three years during the 2nd High-Level Meeting at the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi.
According to Kuwait News Agency, both sides discussed ways of bolstering operational collaboration in areas such as maritime search and rescue, pollution response, and maritime law enforcement. The discussions also emphasized the importance of sharing best practices and maintaining professional exchanges to enhance the safety and resilience of the Indo-Pacific region.
Indian Coast Guard Ship Shaunak is currently deployed to Jakarta from January 27-30 to strengthen operational linkages with its Indonesian counterpart, underscoring the strong ties between the two nations. This renewed agreement highlights the commitment of India and Indonesia to fostering a secure and cooperative maritime environment.
Director General ICG Paramesh Sivamani led the Indian delegation, while the Indonesian team was led by Chief Vice Admiral Irvansyah, who was on an official visit to India from January 24-28 along with an eight-member delegation.
