India and Germany Discuss Enhanced Counterterrorism Cooperation

New delhi: Indian authorities announced the conclusion of the 10th meeting of the India-Germany Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism, focusing on the threats posed by terrorism and the enhancement of counterterrorism cooperation.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs released a statement highlighting that both nations unequivocally condemned terrorism in all its manifestations, including cross-border terrorism. Special mention was made of recent terrorist incidents, such as the attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir and another near the Red Fort in New Delhi. The discussions included an exchange of views on threat assessments in each country and globally, along with respective counterterrorism policies.

The meeting also addressed emerging challenges such as online radicalization, the misuse of new technologies for terrorist purposes, and the financing of terrorism. Topics of capacity building, judicial cooperation, and the exchange regarding the designation of terrorists and terrorist entities were deliberated. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation within the UN, the Global Counter Terrorism Forum, the Financial Action Task Force, and other multilateral forums. The statement from the Ministry added that the meeting explored ways to enhance counterterrorism cooperation, identifying future collaboration areas.

The meeting was co-chaired by Vinod Bahade, Joint Secretary (Counter Terrorism) in the Ministry of External Affairs of India, and Konrad Arz von Straussenburg, Director of Directorate-General for International Order, UN and Arms Control of Germany.
