India and Fiji Agree to Deepen Cooperation Following High-Level Talks

New delhi: India and Fiji have agreed to enhance their cooperation in multiple areas of mutual interest following extensive high-level discussions.

According to Kuwait News Agency, a statement from the Prime Minister's Office revealed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who was on an official visit to New Delhi from August 24 to 26, accompanied by a high-level delegation.

The two leaders engaged in comprehensive discussions covering a wide range of bilateral, regional, and global matters. Both expressed satisfaction with the growth of their relationship and committed to building a broad-based and inclusive partnership in various sectors, including defense, health, agriculture, trade, and education. They acknowledged the significant progress in bilateral exchanges and reinforced the strong people-to-people ties between India and Fiji.

The leaders also agreed to enhance cooperation against terrorism, condemning it in all forms and emphasizing the need to counter radicalization and prevent the misuse of emerging technologies for terrorist activities. Additionally, they committed to climate action, with Modi appreciating Fiji's membership in international alliances focused on sustainable development.

Both countries recognized the potential for increased trade and investment and expressed their intent to deepen sectoral cooperation to strengthen economic partnerships and supply chain resilience. They reiterated a shared vision for a sustainable Indo-Pacific economic architecture and committed to promoting mutual prosperity.

On defense, both leaders expressed satisfaction with ongoing collaborations and agreed to further strengthen these ties, with a focus on maritime security and peace in the Indo-Pacific region. They announced plans to collaborate on regional security initiatives and signed eight MoUs to enhance cooperation in rural development, agricultural financing, human capacity building, and more.
