Cairo: The Arab League has made a strong appeal to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to recognize medical negligence by Israeli occupation authorities as a deliberate crime of murder against Palestinian detainees. This call follows the death of Abdulrahman Al-Sebateen, a 21-year-old Palestinian, in an Israeli jail in Jerusalem.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Cairo-based League emphasized that Al-Sebateen's death represents the latest in a series of crimes against humanity occurring in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The League highlighted that this incident marks the sixth prisoner death within Israeli occupation jails this year, underscoring a troubling pattern of systematic abuses.
The Arab League's statement condemned the death as a new addition to the ongoing record of crimes committed by Israeli authorities against Palestinian prisoners and detainees. It further noted that such actions constitute a blatant violation of the Third and Fourth Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law.
The policy of deliberate medical negligence employed by the Israeli occupation is described as a form of slow killing and torture, impacting thousands of Palestinian detainees, including vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the sick. This practice is prohibited under international law, the statement asserted.
In a pressing call to action, the League urged the international community, including humanitarian and rights organizations led by the International Committee of the Red Cross, to intervene. They are calling for immediate pressure on Israel to release the body of Al-Sebateen and return it to his family.
