IAEA Reports Progress in Iran Nuclear Inspections Amidst Challenges

Vienna: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has reported progress in its inspection efforts across Iranian nuclear sites that were not affected by the recent United States air strikes on Tehran's nuclear facilities in June, according to Rafael Grossi, the agency's chief.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Grossi announced that IAEA inspectors have returned to Iran and have successfully conducted inspections at those sites that remained intact following the June attacks. During a press conference held after a meeting with the IAEA's board of governors, Grossi urged Tehran to enhance its cooperation by granting inspectors unimpeded access to all relevant facilities.

Grossi explained that while the IAEA has a legal mandate to conduct these inspections, the degree of access granted to its inspectors is often contingent upon the level of cooperation from local authorities. He emphasized the importance of aligning the agency's nuclear inspection programs with local regulations to ensure comprehensive oversight.

In his discussion about the ongoing inspection work in Iran, Grossi highlighted the regularity of contact with the Islamic Republic. He reiterated the UN nuclear watchdog's commitment to addressing any potential gaps that might impede its inspection activities, underscoring the agency's dedication to maintaining a thorough and uninterrupted inspection process in Iran.
