Home Secretary Announces GBP 140 Million Tech Upgrades for UK Police to Combat Crime

London: Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said on Monday that the UK police will be receiving GBP 140 million worth of tech upgrades, including vehicles using facial recognition equipment and Artificial Intelligence tools, to aid them against crime.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Mahmood presented the government's white paper while speaking to the House of Commons. The white paper outlined various measures to help police fight crime beyond the confines of analogue technology, which she noted that some police forces in the country still relied on.

On Sunday, Mahmood revealed plans for the United Kingdom to create an FBI-like police force, tentatively dubbed the National Police Service (NPS). This new force would be tasked with handling serious crimes and providing support to local police in dealing with such issues.
