Kuwait city: Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi emphasized the importance of patient safety as the foundation of all health services, declaring that the quality of care is non-negotiable and that health is a fundamental right. Speaking at a Ministry of Health event commemorating World Patient Safety Day, which this year focused on "Safe care for every newborn and every child," he referenced World Health Organization (WHO) reports indicating that robust safety systems and quality programs have saved millions of lives over the past two decades.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Ministry of Health is marking the day with a comprehensive plan that includes targeted initiatives, guidance, and performance checks. Dr. Al-Awadhi highlighted the "Safety Star Award," now in its 11th year, which celebrates excellence in patient safety. He also noted that Kuwait has been advocating for safety since the early 2000s, establishing a quality and accreditation directorate, co-drafting the "Nine Patient Safety Solutions," implementing pharmacovigilance, and requiring cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training as well as continuing medical education for health workers.
Dr. Al-Awadhi also discussed Law No. 70 of 2020 on medical practice, which safeguards the rights of patients and practitioners while ensuring safe, comprehensive care that aligns with global standards. He extended his gratitude to healthcare staff and reaffirmed the ministry's dedication to continuous improvement. The event also recognized the 2025 "Safety Star" winners, exceptional primary-care policy committees, and outstanding nursing teams.
