Gaza: The Palestinian movement Hamas announced on Wednesday that discussions with US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, have resulted in a framework agreement aimed at establishing a durable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The movement is currently awaiting a response from the Israeli authorities to the draft agreement, as stated in a press release.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Hamas emphasized that the agreement with Witkoff is part of ongoing efforts to halt the ongoing conflict involving Israeli occupation forces in Gaza. The framework deal outlines a cessation of hostilities, the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, and the facilitation of humanitarian aid into the region. Additionally, a committee of technocrats is to be established to manage the affairs of the Strip.
The proposed agreement also includes provisions for the exchange of dozens of Israeli hostages and the bodies of hostages in return for the release of an unspecified number of Palestinian prisoners.
