Cairo: A delegation of Palestine's Hamas, led by Khalil Al-Haya, engaged in discussions with Hassan Rashad, the head of Egypt's General Intelligence Service, concerning an Egyptian proposal to establish a truce in the besieged Gaza Strip, as reported by Egypt's local media.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the meeting is part of Egypt's ongoing efforts to facilitate negotiations for a 60-day truce in Gaza. The Al-Qahera News channel highlighted that Egypt has been putting significant effort into these negotiations.
Hamas acknowledged Egypt's initiatives in providing relief aid to the people of Gaza and expressed their willingness to return to ceasefire talks promptly. This readiness is primarily driven by the dire conditions, including violence and starvation, currently facing the region.
Concurrently, mediators from Egypt and Qatar are working on a new initiative aimed at Hamas. This initiative focuses on reviving a 60-day truce, facilitating the exchange of hostages, and ensuring the entry of aid.
Moreover, Egypt is actively engaging with other concerned parties, including the United States, to pursue a permanent truce. This effort is aimed at ending the ongoing conflict and allowing humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
