Gulf Group at UN: Rule of Law Ensures Peace, Security, Development

New york: The Gulf Group at the United Nations (UN) said that the rule of law at both national and international levels is the basis of inter-state relations and essential guarantee of peace, security, development and respect of human rights.

According to Kuwait News Agency, this statement was delivered by Kuwaiti Diplomatic Attache Faisal Al-Fowzan on behalf of the Gulf Group at the Sixth Committee under the item entitled: The rule of law at the national and international levels. He emphasized that the GCC countries believe the international order should be governed by clear and agreed-upon rules, rather than selectivity and double standards, to promote international justice and equality.

Al-Fowzan welcomed UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' recent report on enhancing the security system concerning the rule of law. He called for the adoption of modern technologies and digital transition to ensure transparency, accountability, and justice.

At the national level, Al-Fowzan affirmed that the GCC countries prioritize developing their legislative and judicial frameworks to align with international commitments. He highlighted that the GCC countries are committed to empowering women, promoting judicial independence, and upgrading legislative systems based on principles of good governance, equality, and equal opportunities.

Internationally, Al-Fowzan reiterated the GCC countries' unwavering support for international justice and rejection of any breach of international law and UN Charter principles. He reaffirmed their commitment to international law, multilateralism, and International Court of Justice (ICJ) verdicts as primary tools for peacefully settling disputes.
