Grand Egyptian Museum Inauguration Deemed Unique Event by PM Madbouli

Cairo: Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Saturday affirmed that the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is a unique and extraordinary event, an edifice awarded by the nation to peoples of the world. Speaking at a news conference ahead of the inauguration ceremony at the museum's premises, the prime minister said the museum is an international landmark presented by Egypt as a gift to the globe, from a state with a history spanning more than 7,000 years, from a land that incubated civilizations contributing to the formation of human history.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the notion of building the museum dates back to approximately 30 years ago when preliminary procedures began, and a series of technical studies were conducted. At that time, an architectural contest was organized to choose the best design for the venture. Work on executing the project had deadlocked in 2011 due to domestic events, but later resumed upon directions by President Abdelfattah Elsisi, with intensified efforts over the past seven years.

Later tonight, the Egyptian president is scheduled to open the museum with the attendance of 79 official delegations, including a delegation headed by the Representative of His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
