German Chancellor Urges Quick US Tariff Deal

Berlin: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz urged the European Union on Thursday to settle a tariff dispute with the United States as quickly as possible before the deadline of their trade negotiations.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Merz emphasized in a statement that “A quick result must be reached. Better quick and simple than lengthy and complicated, and still under negotiation for months.” He stressed that a swift and straightforward agreement is crucial for European companies that have strong ties with American markets, especially those in the chemical, pharmaceutical, mechanical engineering, aluminum, steel, and automotive sectors.

The trade negotiations between the European Union and the United States are set to expire on Wednesday of next week. If an agreement is not reached by then, the US administration could impose tariffs on imports from EU countries, potentially impacting the economic relationship between the two regions.
