German Aid to Ukraine Since Start of War Surpasses USD 87.5 Billion

Berlin: Germany has maintained its position as the leading supporter of Ukraine since the onset of its conflict with Russia in February 2022, with the total aid amounting to over USD 87.5 billion. This substantial aid underscores Germany's commitment to assisting Ukraine amidst the ongoing crisis.

According to Kuwait News Agency, a report recently released by the German Government disclosed that the civil assistance provided to Ukraine amounts to USD 41.5 billion, while military support has reached USD 47 billion. Significant portions of the civil aid have been directed toward supporting refugees, including approximately one million Ukrainians, predominantly women and children, who have sought refuge in Germany. This assistance is administered through financial allocations from the 16 state governments and municipalities, ensuring that refugees receive necessary support.

The report highlights that refugees benefit from both direct and indirect government aid, which includes German language courses and other educational and research programs aimed at facilitating their integration into German society. On the military front, Germany ranks as the top European contributor in aid to Ukraine, providing the Ukrainian armed forces with equipment, weaponry, and training conducted on German soil.

The military aid package comprises advanced defense systems such as Iris-T and Patriot missiles, combat vehicles, artillery units, Leopard-2 tanks, Marder and Gibard armored vehicles, ammunition, anti-aircraft radars, various vehicles, light weapons, medical supplies, and uniforms. The German Army conducts training sessions for thousands of Ukrainian troops in Germany, focusing on the operation of heavy equipment, field defense techniques, demining, and first aid skills.

Additionally, Berlin's support extends to assisting Ukraine in repairing and maintaining its energy infrastructure, supplying Kyiv with turbines, alternative infrastructure equipment, and power generators. The report further indicates that the German Government collaborates with international organizations and NGOs to ensure the swift delivery of medical supplies, food, and clean water to Ukrainians residing near combat zones.
