New york: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states have urged the international community to capitalize on the momentum generated by a recently concluded international conference to advance the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. The call was made during a special United Nations Security Council session focused on maintaining global peace and security.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Kuwait's Assistant Foreign Minister for International Organizations Affairs, Minister Plenipotentiary Abdulaziz Al-Jarallah, delivered a speech on behalf of the GCC at the United Nations. Al-Jarallah emphasized the GCC's unwavering support for Palestinian rights and expressed concern about the ongoing escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories, which he warned threatens both regional and international peace.
Al-Jarallah condemned the actions of the Israeli occupation forces, citing excessive force, indiscriminate bombing, and collective punishment of Palestinians, including vulnerable groups such as children, women, medical personnel, journalists, and relief workers. He urged the UN Security Council to take decisive action to halt these violations and to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.
He called on the international community to address the violations of international law and to support a binding UN Security Council resolution that demands the cessation of genocidal acts against Palestinians. Al-Jarallah highlighted the importance of implementing relevant UN resolutions and stressed the need for a ceasefire in Gaza, the protection of civilians, and the return of displaced persons.
On behalf of the GCC, Al-Jarallah urged all member states to recognize the State of Palestine and to work towards its acceptance as a full UN member. He reaffirmed the GCC's support for the reconstruction of Gaza and called for international participation in these efforts, in coordination with the Palestinian government and the United Nations.
Al-Jarallah also commended diplomatic efforts by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States to secure a permanent ceasefire, facilitate the release of Palestinian prisoners, and enhance humanitarian support through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). He expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people in their pursuit of self-determination and an independent state.
