GCC Supreme Council Issues Statement Condemning Israeli Aggression on Qatar

Doha: The Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) convened an extraordinary meeting in Doha to address the implications of the Israeli occupation's aggression on Qatar, resulting in the adoption of a comprehensive final statement.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the statement strongly condemned the Israeli occupation aggression, highlighting it as a blatant violation of Qatar's sovereignty. The council emphasized that this act represents an unacceptable escalation and a violation of international law and the United Nations charter. In a show of unity, the council affirmed the full solidarity of GCC states with Qatar, stressing that any aggression against one member is considered an aggression against all, in line with the Joint Defense Agreement.

The GCC leaders directed the Joint Defense Council to organize an urgent meeting in Doha, with a prior session of the Higher Military Committee. This aims to evaluate the defense situation of the member states and address threats in light of the aggression against Qatar. The Unified Military Command has been tasked with executing necessary measures to activate joint defense mechanisms and Gulf Deterrence capabilities. The council further asserted that the aggression poses a direct threat to regional peace and stability, undermining efforts to achieve peace and existing agreements with Israel.

The Supreme Council also called on the Security Council, the international community, and influential states to take firm measures to halt these violations, which have diminished the authority of international law. The council urged the global community to deter the Israeli occupation and put an end to its violations of international law, urging condemnation of the aggression to protect civilians.

Commendation was given to Qatar's security and defense authorities for their swift response to the incident, safeguarding citizens and residents. The council noted that the attack obstructs Qatar's mediation efforts in the Gaza Strip, including the release of hostages and alleviation of Palestinian suffering.

The council emphasized adherence to United Nations principles, respect for state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, peaceful dispute resolution, and refraining from force. Additionally, appreciation was expressed to Arab, Islamic, and international communities for their immediate condemnation of the aggression and solidarity with Qatar.

Finally, the Supreme Council urged global condemnation of the aggression against Qatar and the crimes in the Gaza Strip, which include humanitarian violations and attacks on essential workers.
