Doha: The GCC committee for standardization affairs convened its 8th meeting here on Thursday with Kuwait's participation. The gathering aimed to discuss and enhance collaborative efforts in setting criteria and standards for products and commodities across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states. According to Kuwait News Agency, the Qatari Minister of Trade and Industry, Sheikh Mohammad bin Hamad, expressed his aspirations during the session for the conferees to conclude the event with actionable recommendations. These proposals are intended to strengthen joint GCC initiatives concerning product and commodity standards. He emphasized the necessity for vigorous GCC efforts to keep pace with the developments in open markets, highlighting the importance of updating legislations and specifications in accordance with the GCC accord signed in 2001. The minister noted that unified legislations would facilitate the seamless flow of goods across the borders of the Council's member countries. The GCC has es tablished up to 27,600 standardization units and technical rules aimed at promoting inter-GCC trade and ensuring the quality of products. The meeting also saw the participation of the State of Kuwait's delegation led by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Khalifa Al-Ajeel.
