GCC Secretary-General and Austrian Foreign Minister Discuss Regional Security Concerns

Riyadh: Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Albudaiwi received Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Austria Beate Meinl-Reisinger at the GCC General Secretariat headquarters in Riyadh. During the meeting, they discussed several key topics, most notably the Iranian aggressions targeting the GCC states, the implications of the dangerous escalation currently witnessed in the region, and the consequences of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which pose a direct threat to both regional and international security and stability. According to Saudi Press Agency, Austria's foreign minister reaffirmed her country's steadfast support for the GCC states in the face of these attacks, underscoring the necessity of intensifying international efforts to halt these aggressions and protect the security and stability of the region. Albudaiwi expressed his gratitude and appreciation for Austria's supportive stance, its efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region, and its support for the adoption of United Nations (UN) Security Council Resolution 2817. The meeting also featured a review of GCC-Austrian relations and ways to further develop them to achieve mutual interests, as well as an exploration of GCC-European Union relations and the importance of solidifying these ties. Additionally, they followed up on the latest developments regarding the joint work program (2022-2027) and exchanged views on the most recent regional and international developments.
