Geneva: Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have reiterated their commitment to empowering women and promoting their active participation in diplomatic work, emphasizing their dedication to achieving peace and development. This announcement was made during the 59th regular session by Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hayen, who currently serves as Chairman of the GCC Council of Ambassadors to the UNHCR in Geneva.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Ambassador Al-Hayen highlighted the progress observed in the increasing number of women in leadership and official positions, affirming that women are taking on more decision-making roles. This progress signifies a positive trend towards gender equality in diplomatic circles.
Ambassador Al-Hayen also mentioned that GCC countries are ready to exchange expertise with regional and international partners to enhance policies supporting women in the diplomatic field. He underscored the importance of this exchange to strengthen the role of women in diplomacy and contribute to global peace efforts.
In his address, Ambassador Al-Hayen pointed out the challenges faced by women worldwide, particularly in conflict-affected regions. He noted that while the global community celebrates International Women's Day, many women continue to suffer due to rising aggression and ongoing challenges, highlighting the need for continued focus on women's empowerment and protection.
