Kuwait city: Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Al-Budaiwi, highlighted the significant efforts made by member states to safeguard public funds during the 22nd meeting of GCC countries' chief auditors and accountants. Al-Budaiwi emphasized that the meeting underscored the commitment of GCC leaders to enhance collaborative efforts in auditing and monitoring across member countries.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Budaiwi expressed gratitude to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the current chairman of the GCC Supreme Council, for the Kuwaiti Government's role in ensuring the success of GCC meetings. He also extended congratulations to Saudi Arabia on the 95th anniversary of its unification and the United Arab Emirates for securing a position on the executive committee of INTOSAI, the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions.
The GCC Secretariat General prepared the meeting file based on the outcomes of the 26th undersecretaries' meeting held on July 30. The file included topics related to oversight and auditing, featuring a training plan for 2023-2025 to enhance auditing capabilities and a draft strategic training plan for 2026-2028 aimed at anticipating future requirements and boosting professional capacities within auditing apparatuses.
The meeting also reviewed the results of the sixth edition of the GCC supervision and auditing competition for research and studies, along with a UAE proposal on governance for revising accounts of the GCC Secretariat General. Al-Budaiwi further noted discussions on a draft executive bylaw for an employment distinctiveness award, intended to motivate cadres and improve institutional performance within audit apparatuses, as well as the introduction of a Gulf week dedicated to auditing and financial oversight.
