GCC Chief Commends Qatar’s Role in DRC-M23 Peace Deal

Doha: Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Al-Budaiwi praised Qatar's mediation efforts that facilitated the signing of a declaration of principles between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Rwanda-backed March 23 (M23) rebel movement.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the agreement, signed in Doha, Qatar, on Saturday, aims to end the ongoing conflict in eastern Congo and enhance peace and security in the region. Al-Budaiwi highlighted the significance of Qatar's diplomatic role and its consistent efforts to foster peace and dialogue on both regional and international stages, in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter and international law.
