GCC Calls for Empowering Elderly, Combating Age Discrimination

Geneva: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states on Wednesday urged stronger efforts to empower older people to contribute their skills and experience while tackling negative stereotypes and age discrimination in the workplace. Speaking before the Human Rights Council in Geneva in his capacity as Chair of the GCC Ambassadors' Council, Kuwait's UN envoy Nasser Al-Hayen called for greater international cooperation and practical steps to boost social protection systems.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Hayen also reaffirmed the GCC's firm commitment to ensuring that older people fully enjoy their rights without discrimination. He highlighted Gulf initiatives such as financial and social support programs, awareness campaigns, and legislation aimed at preserving dignity and respect for older generations. He said these measures reflect Gulf values of honoring the elderly and come amid shifting demographic trends.
