GCC Approves Initial Phase of Unified Travel System for Gulf Nationals

Abu dhabi: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has approved the initial phase of a "one-stop" travel system, which facilitates Gulf Arab nationals in completing all travel procedures at a single point, as announced by the bloc's chief on Wednesday.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the new system will initially undergo a trial period for air travel between the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. If successful, the system will be expanded to include all GCC member states, as stated by Jasem Al-Budaiwi following discussions with interior ministers from the six-member bloc.

The meeting also resulted in the development of a comprehensive "GCC security strategy" aimed at combating money laundering. Additionally, a unified electronic system has been established to link travel violations among the member states of the Riyadh-based bloc. These initiatives are set in advance of the first-ever GCC security conference, which is scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi in 2027.
