G7 Leaders Advocate for Middle East Stability Amid Iran-Israel Tensions

Ottawa: Leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) industrialized countries have issued a joint statement calling for de-escalation and the safeguarding of stability in the Middle East. This statement was released following their meeting in Canada on Monday.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the G7 leaders reaffirmed their commitment to peace and stability in the region. They stressed the importance of protecting civilians and emphasized that Iran must never possess a nuclear weapon. The statement urged that resolving the Iranian crisis should lead to a broader de-escalation of hostilities in the Middle East, including a ceasefire in Gaza.

The G7 also expressed readiness to coordinate efforts to preserve energy market stability. The leaders stated their vigilance regarding implications for international energy markets and affirmed their readiness to work with like-minded partners to safeguard market stability. US President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron, European Council President Antonio Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz participated in the summit.

President Trump left the summit one day before its conclusion, returning to Washington. He later stated that his early departure was not related to the ongoing ceasefire efforts between Iran and the Israeli occupation.
