French MoI: 441 police personnel wounded in pension protests

At least 441 police and gendarmerie personnel were injured during violent protests against the new pension reforms across France yesterday, Minister of Interior Gerald Darmanin said Friday.

In an interview with CNEWS TV, Darmanin stressed the need to denounce violence committed by the protesters against police forces and government facilities as well as some properties.

He unveiled that 457 persons were arrested following the clashes with police during the protests, referring that the protesters set fire to some different areas.

On Thursday, the Ministry of Interior declared that 1.08 million people took part in the protests staged for the ninth day in several French cities to press the government to give up amending the pension law.

A wave of strikes staged across the country led to the suspension of services at several vital sectors, including educational institutions, train stations and banks, upon a call from the workers’ unions.
