Paris: France on Wednesday called for respecting the cease-fire in Lebanon to allow the return of the displaced and restore conditions to normalcy on both sides of the conflict. The foreign ministry emphasized the importance of adhering to the cease-fire agreement to ensure stability in the region.
According to Kuwait News Agency, France’s foreign ministry released a statement welcoming the cease-fire agreement and its implementation. The ministry highlighted that this agreement is the culmination of efforts that have been ongoing for many months in close coordination with Lebanese and Israeli authorities and the United States. The statement reiterated that the terms for lasting peace are well-established within the framework of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and the accord strongly reaffirms this resolution.
The official statement from France also indicated that the country would actively participate in monitoring and implementing the cease-fire agreement in collaboration with its partners. Additiona
lly, the statement underscored the importance of redeploying government forces in southern Lebanon and the urgent need to elect a new president. The new head of state should be capable of unifying the Lebanese people and reactivating state institutions.
Furthermore, the French Foreign Ministry conveyed that the Lebanon accord should serve as a stepping stone for a cease-fire in Gaza. France is committed to continuing its efforts to halt hostilities, secure the release of prisoners, and deliver aid to Gazans. The ministry stressed that a just and lasting political solution that ensures a two-state settlement is the only path to achieving peace and security in the Middle East.
