Kuwait city: France has closed some 1,896 schools either fully or partially due to scorching temperatures nationwide that surpassed 40 degrees Celsius, authorities said on Tuesday. France's weather forecaster has placed 16 regions, including the capital Paris, on red alert, in addition to 68 others on orange alert. The country's meteorological service warned that the sweltering conditions are likely to persist into next week.
According to Kuwait News Agency, more than 200 emergency shelters have opened to accommodate those most vulnerable to the scorching heat wave, mainly women and children. Local media reported that soaring temperatures have gripped large swathes across Europe, with many countries there issuing heat alerts and advising people to remain indoors as much as possible.
