France and Ukraine Ink Deal for Purchase of 100 Rafale Fighter Jets

Paris: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron have formalized an agreement for Kyiv to acquire French Rafale fighter jets, along with advanced air defense systems and various military equipment, aimed at enhancing Ukraine's defensive capabilities.

According to Kuwait News Agency, during a press conference at the Elysee Palace in Paris, President Macron announced that the agreement entails supplying Ukraine with up to 100 fighter jets over the next decade. The package includes comprehensive weaponry and training programs for the Ukrainian forces. Additionally, Ukraine will receive the new SAMP/T air defense systems currently under development, as well as radar systems, drones, and anti-drone technologies, which are deemed essential for ensuring the security of the Ukrainian populace.

The official statement highlighted France's enduring commitment to supporting Ukraine by equipping it with cutting-edge weaponry. It was noted that the financial backing for these initiatives comes from French military funding programs and European mechanisms specifically designed to bolster Ukraine.

President Macron also revealed that the two nations signed an agreement to fortify bilateral cooperation across various sectors, including transport, energy, water, and defense. This includes renewing support for basic infrastructure with the provision of 500 railway locomotives to Ukraine.

President Zelensky expressed that his discussions with Macron covered a range of topics to enhance technological, industrial, and economic collaboration between France and Ukraine. He remarked that the signed agreements would foster job creation, regional development, and transportation improvements.
