Lahore: The death toll from floods in the eastern Punjab province of Pakistan has reached 41, with eight others injured, as more than 2.4 million people have been affected, according to authorities on Tuesday.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab reported that the province is experiencing its ninth spell of monsoon, which is expected to bring more rain in the next 48 hours. The PDMA confirmed that over 2.4 million people and 3,200 villages have been impacted due to severe flooding in the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers. Approximately 999,000 individuals who were trapped by the floods have been evacuated to safe locations, and 780,000 animals have been relocated in rescue and relief operations, stated Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed. Additionally, 395 relief camps, 392 medical camps, and 336 veterinary camps have been set up across the province. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in Islamabad, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sahiwal, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bahawalpur divisions in the next 24 hours.
