Brussels: The European statistical office (Eurostat) reported on Thursday that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the euro area increased to 6.3 percent in August 2025, up from 6.2 percent in July 2025, while remaining stable compared to August 2024.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the unemployment rate across the European Union held steady at 5.9 percent in August 2025, unchanged from both July 2025 and August 2024. Eurostat's estimates indicate that approximately 13 million and 89 thousand individuals were unemployed in the EU, with 10 million and 842 thousand of these residing in the euro area in August 2025.
The office highlighted monthly changes, noting that compared to July 2025, the number of unemployed individuals increased by about 39,000 in the EU and 11,000 in the euro area. In a year-on-year comparison, the EU saw an increase of roughly 85,000 unemployed people, while the euro area experienced a decrease of around 15,000.
