EU Leaders Urge Australian Prime Minister to Enhance Cooperation After Re-election

Brussels: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa have called on Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to deepen cooperation following his party's victory in the federal elections.

According to Kuwait News Agency, von der Leyen expressed her congratulations to Albanese and his party in a message posted on X, stating, "Congratulations to Albanese and his party on their victory in the Australian federal elections. Europeans and Australians are not just friends - we're mates." She emphasized the importance of this moment of stability to work together on expanding trade and investment, and promoting shared democratic values and a free, open Indo-Pacific.

EU Council President Antonio Costa also extended his congratulations to Albanese via a post on X, highlighting the robust partnership between the European Union and Australia. He acknowledged Australia as a key partner for the EU, appreciating its steadfast support for Ukraine and commitment to security in the Indo-Pacific. Costa expressed his confidence that the strategic and bilateral cooperation between the EU and Australia would continue to grow and strengthen in the future.
