Brussels: The European Commission endorsed the integration of the voluntary Code of Practice on Disinformation into the framework of the Digital Services Act (DSA). This integration will help establish the Code as a benchmark for determining platforms' compliance with the DSA, the Commission said in a press release on Thursday.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the signatories of the Code, including companies designated under the DSA as Very Large Online Platforms and Search Engines, such as Google, Meta, Microsoft, and TikTok, have submitted all necessary documents supporting their request to convert the Code into a Code of Conduct under the DSA.
The Commission also considered that the Code will become an important benchmark for determining platform compliance with the Digital Services Act and will be part of the annual independent audit that these platforms are subject to under the DSA. The social media platform X withdrew from the original Code in May 2023 after its owner Elon Musk criticized the EU digital content moderation rules.
