EU High Rep. Emphasizes Need for Enhanced Europe-Gulf Cooperation

Kuwait city: High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaya Kallas, highlighted the importance of strengthening European-Gulf cooperation to address regional and international challenges. She emphasized the necessity of adopting diplomatic solutions to achieve security and stability in the Middle East.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Kallas delivered these remarks during the launch of the second high-level forum on regional security and cooperation between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the European Union. The event, hosted by Kuwait, saw participation from foreign ministers and senior officials from both regions. This forum precedes the 29th joint ministerial meeting scheduled for tomorrow.

Kallas noted that the common issues between the GCC and the European Union demonstrate a convergence of interests and potential for future cooperation. She stressed the need for diplomacy and cooperation over confrontation to enhance dialogue and understanding, aiming for regional and international stability. The discussions centered on diplomatic challenges and opportunities in the Middle East, focusing on three main issues: Iran, maritime security in the Red Sea, and the situation in Gaza.

Furthermore, Kallas mentioned that the UN Security Council's sanctions on Iran mark a significant milestone. She stated that the European Union plans to re-impose previously lifted nuclear sanctions, reaffirming its commitment to the diplomatic path. The ultimate goal is to enable Iran to become a responsible partner in international affairs through sustained negotiations.
