EU Criticizes Russian Strikes on Ukrainian Sumy

Sumy: The European Union condemned on Sunday the Russian attack on the city of Sumy in eastern Ukraine, which left dozens dead according to Ukrainian authorities.

According to Kuwait News Agency, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, expressed her deep sadness over the attack on social media platform X. She described the incident as "heartbreaking scenes from Sumy this morning as residents gathered to celebrate Palm Sunday, only to be met by Russian missiles." Kallas highlighted that the attack exemplified Russia's intensified aggression despite Ukraine's acceptance of an unconditional ceasefire, and she reinforced her support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people.

European Council President Antonio Costa also responded to the attack on X, expressing his outrage and labeling the missile strike as "criminal." Costa condemned Russia's ongoing "campaign of violence against Ukraine," stating that the conflict persists solely because of Russia's choices. He called for accountability and justice for those responsible for the attacks and reiterated the EU's unwavering support for the "heroic" people of Ukraine.

Ukrainian authorities announced earlier on Sunday that a Russian ballistic missile attack on central Sumy had killed at least 31 people and injured 84 others.
