Brussels: EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas announced on Tuesday that the European Commission is set to unveil a package of measures aimed at pressuring the Israeli occupation government. The proposed actions include suspending trade concessions and imposing sanctions on "extremist ministers and violent settlers," in response to the ongoing war in Gaza.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Kallas shared in a post on X that these measures are intended to convey a strong message from the EU demanding an end to the conflict. She expressed concern that Israel's ground offensive in Gaza is exacerbating an already dire situation, leading to further casualties, destruction, and displacement. This initiative aligns with the increasing pressure from several European countries, such as Belgium, Ireland, Spain, and the Netherlands, advocating for sanctions against Israel and urging the EU to take a firmer stance. The proposed actions also include targeting violent settlers and revoking economic privileges linked to existing trade agreements between the EU and the Israeli government.
