Brussels: European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Suica, signed a Joint Declaration on the Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership with Jordan, aiming to tackle shared challenges and opportunities. The signing of the deal follows a meeting between President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and King Abdullah II of Jordan, according to a statement from the European Commission.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Commissioner Suica emphasized the importance of the agreement as a milestone in the EU's relationship with Jordan, highlighting that shared values and interests can lead to tangible outcomes. She noted that the partnership will enhance security, stability, and economic opportunities for both Jordan and the EU, directly benefiting their citizens. Suica expressed her readiness to use all available resources to ensure the commitments are realized.
Jordan is recognized as a key partner for peace and stability in the Middle East, with a long-standing history of cooperation with the EU, rooted in the Jordan-EU Association Agreement. The newly signed Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership aims to elevate this cooperation to better address common challenges and reflects the EU's ongoing commitment to support Jordan in dealing with the socio-economic impacts of the Syrian crisis and in aiding refugee and host communities.
The agreement is expected to facilitate further investments and boost business opportunities for European companies by fostering a more stable economic environment. The partnership will be supported by substantial financial resources amounting to three billion euros, including grants, public and private investments, and macro-financial assistance.
