Luanda: The European Commission announced it has allocated 143 million euros in humanitarian aid to crisis-hit regions across Africa. This announcement occurred during the EU-African Union leaders' summit held in Angola and aims to address the ongoing pressure on relief operations throughout the continent.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the emergency funding includes allocations of 2.5 million euros for the Central African Republic, eight million euros for Nigeria, 30 million euros each for Ethiopia and Somalia, 35 million euros for South Sudan, and 38 million euros for the Central Sahel countries. This aid will be utilized to support food assistance, water and sanitation services, access to healthcare, and help the most vulnerable communities meet their basic needs.
Many regions across Africa continue to experience severe humanitarian challenges driven by conflict, displacement, and declining access to essential services. These issues have forced millions of people to leave their homes in search of safety.
The European Union remains the leading global donor on the continent, maintaining consistent humanitarian funding to support ongoing crises. The EU's assistance is delivered in partnership with UN agencies, international organisations, and civil society groups.
