Erdogan, Kilicdaroglu neck-to-neck in elections’ results, 2nd round possible

Incumbent President Recept Tayyipd Erdogan and direct rival from the Republican People’s Party Kemal Kilicdaroglu are neck-to-neck in the vote count with the former gaining around 49.40 percent and the latter around 44.96 percent, said a Turkish official on Monday.

This might lead to a second round for the Presidential elections on May 28.

In a press conference, the head of the Supreme Electoral Commission in Turkiye, Ahmet Yener revealed that 99 percent of the votes were counted as 192,187 of the 192,214 ballot boxes were opened so far.

Around 84 percent of votes from abroad were counted with 8,065 ballot boxes opened out of 9,594, added Yener.

The official affirmed that the counting process would continue until all votes were counted.

The Presidential and Parliamentary elections began in Turkiye on Sunday. With the current percentages, an imminent second around might be held on May 28th to determine the winner of the Presidential elections.
