Egyptian Forces in Sinai Secure Borders Amid Peace Treaty Concerns

Cairo: Egypt's State Information Service (SIS) affirmed on Saturday that the Egyptian forces deployed in the Sinai Peninsula are primarily tasked with securing the Egyptian borders against all threats, including terrorism and smuggling.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the SIS addressed reports in international media regarding the reinforcement of Egyptian forces in the Sinai Peninsula, which were claimed to be in violation of the peace accord with Israel. The SIS emphasized that the deployment of these forces in Sinai is conducted within the framework of prior coordination with the parties involved in the Peace Treaty, which Egypt is committed to upholding. The SIS highlighted that Egypt has a longstanding history of honoring treaties and agreements.

Furthermore, the SIS statement expressed Egypt's firm stance against any expansion of military operations in Gaza or the displacement of Palestinians. Egypt continues to support the Palestinian people's right to establish their independent state based on the two-state solution, following the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
