Egyptian and US Officials Discuss Trump’s Gaza Plan and Regional Stability

Cairo: Egypt's Foreign Minister Bader Abdelatty and his US counterpart Marco Rubio engaged in a significant discussion on Tuesday, focusing on implementing President Donald Trump's plan for Gaza and reinforcing the Sharm El-Sheikh peace agreement.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the conversation between the two diplomats also delved into enhancing the Egypt-US partnership by boosting trade, investment, and economic collaboration. Egypt's Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of international efforts in implementing the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2803, which advocates for the rapid formation of an international stability force in Gaza to manage its responsibilities effectively.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed the urgent need for unrestricted and safe humanitarian aid access to Gaza, given the deteriorating humanitarian conditions. Abdelatty also conveyed President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi's greetings and appreciation to President Trump, highlighting the longstanding partnership between Egypt and the United States.

Abdelatty expressed eagerness to continue close coordination with the US Department, aiming to enhance security and stability in the Middle East during this critical period. On the topic of Sudan, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's support for Sudan's unity and stability, referencing his recent visit to Khartoum on November 11. Regarding Lebanon, he updated his US counterpart on his recent trip to Beirut on November 26, in line with Al-Sisi's directives to support Lebanon and explore de-escalation and stability measures.

Focusing on Egypt's water security, Abdelatty underscored the necessity of cooperation based on international law to protect the interests of all Nile Basin countries. He opposed unilateral actions that contravene international law concerning the Eastern Nile Basin. Egypt, Abdelatty reiterated, will take necessary measures consistent with international law to safeguard its water security.

Finally, Abdelatty echoed Egypt's commitment to achieving a peaceful and diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine crisis, emphasizing the importance of regional and international stability and security to prevent further suffering.
