Egypt PM Echoes Backing for Political, Economic Stability in Lebanon

Cairo: Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli reiterated Sunday Cairo’s support for political and diplomatic efforts to ensure Lebanon’s political and economic stability. The Egyptian prime minister made the statement while addressing the Egyptian-Lebanese Higher Committee, held in Cairo under the co-chairmanship of Madbouli and his Lebanese counterpart Nawaf Salam.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Madbouli emphasized the flourishing relations between Cairo and Beirut, highlighting recent meetings between the political leaderships of both countries to explore bilateral cooperation. He announced plans to visit Lebanon next December, leading a high-level Egyptian ministerial delegation, and expressed readiness to assist Lebanon in maintaining stability during the upcoming period.

Madbouli also reaffirmed Egypt’s opposition to any Israeli occupation presence on Lebanese soil and voiced support for all necessary measures to uphold the current situation in Lebanon. He stressed Cairo’s determination to enhance bilateral cooperation with Lebanon in the energy sector, addressing Lebanon’s energy needs during the coming period.

The Egyptian prime minister noted that two-way trade between the countries amounted to one billion US dollars last year and suggested that this figure could be doubled through the efforts of their private sectors.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam praised the longstanding relationship between Egypt and Lebanon, particularly in the energy sector. He extended an invitation to Madbouli to attend a major investment conference in Lebanon, encouraging participation from the Egyptian private sector.

The meeting concluded with the signing of 15 agreements covering areas such as trade, investment, food security, food safety, power, renewable energy, industry, oil, gas, and reconstruction.
