Egypt, Jordan, and France Leaders Oppose Palestinian Displacement

Cairo: Egypt's President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi, along with Jordan's King Abdullah II and France's President Emmanuel Macron, have firmly expressed their opposition to the displacement of Palestinians and any attempts to annex Palestinian territories. This was articulated in a joint statement at the conclusion of a trilateral summit held in Cairo, focused on the precarious situation in the besieged Gaza Strip.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the leaders emphasized the importance of respecting the historic status of sacred sites in Jerusalem. They called for an immediate return to a ceasefire agreement to protect Palestinians and ensure the delivery of immediate and comprehensive humanitarian assistance. The statement also urged the implementation of a ceasefire agreement signed on January 19, which calls for the release of all captives and ensures the security of all involved.

The statement highlighted commitments to protect civilians and relief workers, and to ensure the full delivery of aid in accordance with international law and humanitarian principles. The leaders expressed serious concerns over the worsening humanitarian situation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, urging a halt to any unilateral actions that could undermine the potential for a two-state solution and exacerbate tensions.

In this context, the leaders called for international support for the reconstruction plan for Gaza, which was adopted by the Arab summit in Cairo on March 4 and the OIC on March 7. They discussed the effective implementation of this plan concerning security and governance. The governance and maintenance of order and security in Gaza and other Palestinian territories should be managed solely by an empowered Palestinian Authority, with robust regional and international backing. The leaders pledged their readiness to assist in this effort in coordination with partners and emphasized the importance of solidifying these efforts at an upcoming conference in June, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, to establish a clear political pathway for the two-state solution.

They also expressed support for an upcoming conference on Gaza's rebuilding, which will be hosted by Cairo in the near future.
