Cairo: Speaker of Egypt's House of Representatives Hanafy Al-Jebaly emphasized during a recent event that the Euro-Mediterranean region is currently facing "unprecedented" challenges, including extended political unrest, conflicts, and regional tensions that threaten collective security and impact the stability of the area.
According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Jebaly addressed these concerns while inaugurating the Parliamentary Assembly forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (PA-UfM) along with the summit of parliaments' speakers. This significant event was hosted by Egypt's House of Representatives to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Barcelona Process.
Al-Jebaly highlighted that the Barcelona Process has been a cornerstone in the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, serving as one of the most important international examples of comprehensive regional cooperation. He stressed the importance of the forum as an opportunity to evaluate the Euro-Mediterranean partnership's progress and to address the challenges faced by this interconnected civilizational space.
The Speaker also mentioned Egypt's efforts to foster peace in the region by hosting the Sharm El-Sheikh peace summit, which aims to lay the groundwork for comprehensive and permanent peace across the Middle East. The forum brought together notable figures such as Deputy Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives and head of the assembly Mohammad Abu El-Enein, and President of the Arab Parliament Mohammad Al-Yamahy, among others.
