Egypt Emphasizes Respect for Kuwait’s Sovereignty and Maritime Borders

Cairo: Egypt confirmed Monday the necessity of respecting Kuwait's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and maritime borders, ensuring no overlap. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry highlighted the importance of this stance in a press release, emphasizing the need for adherence to international law.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry is closely monitoring the issues raised regarding coordinates and maps deposited with the United Nations concerning maritime zones between Kuwait and Iraq. Egypt expressed deep concern over these matters and stressed adherence to international law principles, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and relevant agreements.

Egypt affirmed its full readiness to support both brotherly nations in bridging viewpoints and reaching mutually agreed solutions consistent with international law. This approach is aimed at promoting regional security and stability. The statement underlined the prioritization of reason and wisdom, drawing on the fraternal bonds and historical ties among Arab states. This is particularly crucial amid highly sensitive regional conditions marked by severe challenges and unprecedented escalation, which necessitate unity, solidarity, and dialogue.

Egypt expressed confidence in the ability of Kuwait and Iraq to resolve the crisis through understanding, good neighborliness, and strong bonds. The emphasis was on safeguarding their interests and ensuring regional stability.
